Amazing Facts
Habitat
Hyacinth Macaws live in South America, mainly in Brazil's
Pantanal, and also in Bolivia and Paraguay.
They prefer palm savannas and tropical forests where they can find
their favorite food, the nuts of the acuri and bocaiuva palms.
Diet
Their diet mainly consists of palm nuts, seeds, fruits, and
occasionally small plants.
They use their strong beaks to crack hard shells and access the
nutritious contents inside.
Nesting
They nest in tree cavities or cliffs and are monogamous, often
forming lifelong pair bonds.
Usually, a pair lays 1–2 eggs, and both parents care for
the chicks until they fledge at around 3 months old.
Size & Lifespan
The largest flying parrot species, measuring up to 100 cm (3.3 ft)
in length and weighing around 1.2 kg (2.6 lbs).
In the wild they can live 50 years or more and in captivity,
they can live up to 60 years with proper care.
